Henry Charles was instrumental in advising our family during the private high school application process. His in-depth knowledge of D.C. area schools and hands-on approach helped to make a cumbersome process easy. After listening to our son's goals and assessing his strengths and weaknesses, Henry recommended schools that would be a good fit and laid out a straightforward plan for our family to follow. Henry Charles Consulting

Henry C Mulzac III

For over 18 years, I’ve dedicated my life to education as a profession. My creed is uncompromising: to unite students with institutions that ignite their innate passions. I am irretrievably convinced that education is the catalyst for profound transformation. Having witnessed its life-altering impact, I am resolute in my pursuit of matching students with schools that will awaken their full potential.

A familial legacy forged in the crucible of adversity has instilled in me an unyielding philosophy. My grandfather, a trailblazing Tuskegee airman, imparted to me the wisdom of Frederick Douglass: ‘If there is no struggle, there is no progress.’ These words have been my North Star, illuminating a path marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. From the formative years of my education to my tenure as an educator, I have realized that growth is not born of comfort but of challenge, perseverance, and an unshakeable resolve.

A chance encounter with the ravages of war, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Dalmatian coast, ignited a fervent passion for education within me. As I wandered through World Heritage sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro, I witnessed the transformative power of education in the aftermath of conflict. There, amidst the ruins of a fractured past, I came to a profound realization: education is not merely the imparting of knowledge but a beacon of hope, a bridge-builder, and a catalyst for a brighter, more harmonious future. That epiphany set me on my present course, guiding my every step.

My odyssey in education began at The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia. I spent a transformative decade donning multiple mantles: 7/8th-grade history teacher, advisor, athletics coach, and Associate Director of Admissions. Each role was a masterclass in the art of education. It taught me that authentic pedagogy lies not in imparting knowledge but meeting students at the intersection of their curiosity and potential. Through trial and error, I distilled the essence of inspiring young minds, the importance of listening, the value of empathy, and the imperative of leadership that empowers.

In 2018, I established Henry Charles Consulting, driven by a singular mission: illuminating the pathway to private and boarding school excellence for students. Leveraging my insider perspective as a former selection committee member, I have shepherded numerous families through the admissions labyrinth, meticulously tailoring my guidance to their distinct circumstances and ambitions. My approach is anchored in a profound respect for the life-changing potential of education and an unwavering commitment to collaboration, empathy, and personalized support.

When the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the global landscape, I felt an overwhelming sense of purpose. I partnered with Sidwell Friends School, collaborating intimately with administrators and educators to craft innovative, hybrid learning experiences that merged in-person and remote instruction. Though the journey was fraught with challenges, the rewards were profound. Witnessing students in grades 5-12 remain enthralled and motivated despite the turmoil reinforced my conviction.

My formal credentials include a master’s degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. As a steadfast advocate for lifelong learning, I actively seek professional development, growth, and self-improvement opportunities. My affiliations with esteemed organizations such as AISAP, NAIS, IECA, SBSA, and NACAC serve as a testament to my unwavering commitment to excellence in education.

For me, education transcends profession; it is an all-consuming passion, a noble purpose, and a sacred privilege. Having witnessed its transformative power, I am resolute in ensuring that every student can flourish. As I continue on my journey, I eagerly anticipate the next chapter, fueled by an insatiable appetite for innovation and a steadfast devotion to the noble pursuit of education.

Beyond my work in private and boarding school admissions, I cherish time spent exploring the outdoors with my loved ones and savoring moments of solitude in nature. As an avid sports enthusiast, I enjoy attending sporting events and instructing specialized athletic programs that support student-athletes. Travel remains a profound passion, as it expands my perspective, fosters empathy, and deepens my understanding of the world. These pursuits bring me immense joy and keep me grounded and focused on my core mission: empowering students to unlock their full potential.
